Sorry for the lack of posts recently. Been too busy!

DIY Circle Fringe Scarf and Crop Top (a 2 for 1 deal)

I was looking at one of my favourite Vancouver Fashion Blogs, A Haute Mess, and she had posted up a DIY Fringe Scarf. I seem to be on a DIY binge this weekend, so I had to try it.

Materials: Scissors, old t-shirt

1.       I cut the t-shirt horizontally around the middle.

2.       Then I cut the fringes on the rough-edged side, not the hemmed side
3.     Pull the fringes one by one to make it fringey

4.       Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy. A fringe circle scarf.
5.       I also cut the sleeves off the top and made it into a crop top I can use for dance class!

DIY Feather Earring

I had lots (and I mean LOTS) of feathers left from the bag I bought from Michael's to make the feather headband so I might as well make some earrings.

Materials: Wire, Feather, beads (make sure they fit the feather), a hook earring

1.       Cut the wire to the length of the earring you want plus a little more so that you can coil the wire to secure. Coil the wire around the feather about  1-2cm from the end of the feather

2.       Slip the beads down the wire and onto the feather.  The number of beads is up to you.
3.       On the last bead, I secured it by pulling the wire through the bottom of the bead up. (Click on the picture, for a better idea of what it looks like)

4.       Attach the wire to the hook earring and coil the wire around itself a few times to secure.

5.       A feather earring!!

DIY Feather Headband

So I've wanted a feather headband for a while now... ever since I saw them a a local craft market. So I decided it was time to make it myself (with the itsy-bitsiest help from my sister.............)

Materials: feathers, headband, scrap fabric, soft cardboard or stiff felt, hot glue (I’m just stunning with my Love Glue Gunning), scissors.

1.        I didn’t have a nice headband so I used an old one and took the original fabric (black with rainbow stars!) off.  And then I cut off long strips of scrap fabric. You can skip this step and the next if you already have a nice headband.

2.       I started wrapping the headband with the strips while hot-gluing the top part of the headband. (I didn’t hot-glue the bottom because it might become bumpy and sit uncomfortably on my head).

 3.       While I set the headband aside to dry off and set, I sorted out a bag of feathers I got from Michael’s. I sorted by size and the kinds of feather I wanted.

4.       I cut a piece of soft cardboard into the general shape I wanted to set the feather (see picture). Then I wrapped it in the scrap fabric and glued it together. You can probably skip this step if you have a piece of stiff felt, which I didn't have at the time.

5.       I hot-glued the longer feathers on the fabric-covered cardboard first.

6.       Then it’s just a matter of layering the feathers into the shape and look you want.

7.       When the feather piece is done, hot glue onto headband!

8.       Voila! You're a bird!

Cost: The only thing I had to buy were the bag of feathers, which cost $2.50 after the 50% off coupon at Michael’s.

Headband Headache

Headbands. Bandana Headbands. Housewife headbands. The look is fabulous! A bandana headband with a leather jacket, the lady gaga tough look. The rolled headbands, the housewife look: the hot version. ;)

Tribute to Tribal

I went into Forever 21 the other day and all I saw were tribal inspired wear. And again. I LOVED it. I've never thought about that kinda of style before but the more I saw the tribal shirts, pants, one pieces, and maxi dresses it just made a whole new look for everybody. Something new is whats best.

Flower Power

Hippies! I wish I lived in that decade, where you don't care about anything. I love the maxi skirts, the headband around the forehead, paisley, flowers! and the shades. And you cannot forget about the tie-dye shirts.  PEACE.

Yellow Polka Dot Bikini

So it's the summer time and we all gotta go to the beach! Of course you gotta wear a bathing. and you gotta find the perfect one. I love the retro bathing suits a lot which are coming in to style even more now and the cool sexy one pieces. I just like to have them all!

Here's a particular favourite I really want: a Betsey Johnson Swimsuit

Hopefully everyday this summer will be super sunny and I can go to the beach as much as I can!

Feather Weather

Indie fashion is so cool! I've been so into these Indie fashion headdresses, but it'll be kind of weird if we wore them on the streets, but they're just SO COOL! Somebody could have wore them at the royal wedding as a fascinator though. Another Native look to go for would be these feather earrings or feather extensions. I'm thinking feathers are going to be the new big style soon.
Lucy Hale from Pretty Little Liars was styled with these feather extensions which look really nice.

$5 WHAT?!

 H&M sale. WHAT?!

MMVA 2011

Hopefully you saw the MMVA's yesterday and saw everyone's outfits. I was so happy that Black Keys and City and Colour got to show off their awesome music but only on an itty bitty stage. Too bad Foster the People didn't play yesterday. You might not know them but they are one of my favourite bands and they wear dress capris; which means they gotta have nice style!

Did anyone notice and Justin Bieber and Cody Simpson practically wore the same thing? A white blazer with a graphic t-shirt and skinny jeans. Who's copying who? Personally I think Cody dressed better than Justin, Justin was a little on the try hard side adding that pink scarf in his pocket.

My favourite dress of the evening was probably Nikki Reed's strapless bubble dress, but Selena Gomez's red carpet dress was stunning as well, maybe a little bit too low. Lady Gaga? Cool but nah.

Off with your head, DANCE til your dead

I dance ballet, jazz and lyrical and I constantly have to revive my dance closet with new gear. Some of the costumes I had to wear for our shows... are pretty funny.
Like this one (I was a monkey one year):

But I also have to get dance-wear for my every-day training. One of my favourite pieces I wear for jazz and lyrical is the Jo&Jax unitard (Tease in Royal Blue and Black). Here’s my favourite part of the unitard: the back!

Sports bras for most girls are the usual lululemons. They are breathable and supportive.
For ballet we usually wear pink ballet tights and a leotard. Shopping for leotards is exciting. There are so many nice ones out there. I really like Capezio and Bloch. They also have shorts, shoes and accessories. I shop at Discount Dance for cheap dance wear.

Dance till you're dead.

Let's start off with a joke:

Two peanuts were walking down the street. One was a salted. Ha ha ha

Recently I got a nude lipstick from Sephora. It’s a great colour but I find that I have to use lip balm first before applying it on. It’s called Dolce Nude.  I also got a copper coloured eyeliner from the Sephora line. It’s good for a less dramatic effect than a regular black eyeliner. My last purchase was the Glee OPI “Diva In Training”, it is a really bright pink. The shatter nail polish from OPI goes really well with this colour.

Happy Shopping!

The Royal Wedding

Hopefully everyone had a chance to watch William and Kate’s wedding, because everything was beautiful! Everyone’s dresses and suits were all so elegant and then there’s Kate. Her dress was amazing! Her dress was perfect. It was simple and clean yet intricate and detailed. The bodice fitted nicely and her train flowed gracefully. The long lace sleeves gave the dress a vintage Victorian look which represents the British history. Her dress was by Sarah Burton the successor of Alexander McQueen (R.I.P).  I’m sure after watching this spectacular wedding, many engaged women will have a Kate Middleton inspired wedding dress. I would.

You must have also seen all the fascinators and hats on all the women that attended the wedding. I thought that was a very brilliant tradition. It’s not every day you can show off your over-the-top hats. I’d like to wear something like that one day.
Here are some of my favourite ones:

Sophie Winkleman                           Tara Parker Tomkinson                         David and Victoria Beckham

And then theres' Princess Beatrice and Eugenie....

Finders Keepers

It has been a wonderful two days!! I think these were some of my best purchases of my life.
Here are some of the stuff my sister and I got from the sales:

Dakota Group Sample Sale Spring 2011
I saw the PLV slingbacks that I mentioned in the last post, but unfortunately they were a size 6...

Co-Lab                              Matt and Nat                             Matt and Nat

Jenny Han                                  Numph                                    Something Else (back)

My favourite purchase was the Matt & Nat backpack. I have been looking for a backpack like that for awhile. The Something Else dress has a really cool back to it that would be good for the summer.  love love love Matt and Nat (and penguins)!! (I'm also probably going to "borrow" my sister's Jenny Han Dress)

Army And Navy Annual Shoe Sale

G by Guess                                        Rocketdog

Jessica Simpson                              Steve Madden

Whenever I go to a shoe store I always check out those blue suede Steve Maddens, but they were always too pricey. I freaked out when I saw them. They're 4 and a half inch heels but I manage. You always need simple black heels because they go with everything, so I got the Rocketdogs. The Jessica Simpson line has really cute shoes, so I've gained a bit more respect for Jessica Simpson. ;) And a classy nude kitten heel won't hurt either. :)

I'd say we did pretty good.
